Local Jewish History
The Jewish Community in Welwyn Garden City has its beginnings in 1939, when a small group of Jewish refugees from Germany arrived under the auspices of the Society of Friends.
The community grew when more Jewish families moved from London to escape the blitz. In 1949 a building fund was launched and, with financial support from the United Synagogue, building on the current site started in 1955.
